I love this café, so sketching there is natural!
From sketchbook in May, 2010. The first time I saw Mornings in Paris I'd been walking down Exchange Street, having a strong memory & yearning for Paris. All of a sudden I looked to my left & there it was: A bit of Paris!! Magic!
Also in May, 2010, I sketched outside the window from what has become my favorite table. Today you will find small evergreens outside the door. Isabelle has a talent for decorating, inside & out, in all seasons.
A friend & a high school teacher of French had just come in that day with a group of students. In my next life I will be a French teacher, as was my dear Polish grandmother, before the war. In this life I am content being a student of French.
This is a quick rapide sketch. Without color it doesn't do justice the the golden glowing atmosphere of Mornings in Paris. Still, it is a part of the way I make notes on location, & it brings back that moment.
I'm off to deliver the art that Isabelle is going to show & sell at Mornings in Paris!
I love your sketches. What fun. I need to do more sketching on location. I have the urge a lot of the time but to chicken to do something around people. Thanks for your kind comments on my not fine art journal page. I like doing great paintings but there is that side of me that just wants to play and do whimsey and journaling is great for that. Its been such fun keeping that up. Be sure and take pix of your Art in Mornings in Paris. What a lovely place. Wish we had something fun like that around here.
ReplyDeleteThe cafe looks lovely and very inviting. Have a nice weekend, Rita!
ReplyDeleteI'll try this place soon, but I must admit I'd probably feel more comfortable in a bar in Paris, Tx. hahaha
ReplyDeleteBirdman, it is no Texas beer hall, true, but I think you'll be comfortable there...A nice atmosphere for reading, writing, chatting & of course, having coffees, teas & treats...
DeleteOh, I would love to visit there and we could talk about sailing and I could watch as you sketched away! What fun that would be.
ReplyDeleteBises,
Genie
It sounds like an enchanting place! I especially love the sketch of the pastry display. I always enjoy capturing photographic images of such cases when I visit a great cafe.
ReplyDeleteLovely art. Been to both Paris, and Portland, Maine, both many years ago...but see the flavor in your paintings.
