The snow baubles (previous post) had company during today's snow storm. Beautifully formed white clumps added themselves to the boughs of the pine tree. Cardinals, nuthatches & chicadees are flying from the pines & spruces, whoosh, whoosh, to my neighbors' feeder & back. Soon after I made the above sketch many of the clumps were gone, knocked to the ground by powerful winds.
Surprise! A different type of pine out another window is decorated with bell-shaped cone hats, so different from the other tree. Read a fuller description of my encounter with my upstairs window views on the journal pages. Downstairs, the snowy background for my newly decorated Christmas tree, which is in front of a floor to ceiling window, reminds me of how much I loved the movie White Christmas when I was young & how it made me long to live in New England. VoilĂ , after all these years, I'm still so happy I got here. No Florida winters for me!
Your sketchbook pages are so sweet to me as my frozen fingers type..Just went out to shovel while Jacques snowblows..It sure is pretty but so much so soon!
ReplyDeleteI love it..I love it I love it..

ReplyDeletePS in case I forget..as I have so many times in the past..I have to say..Love your handwriting too:)
ReplyDeleteI'm dreaming of a white Christmas ! i love the movie, and the music was playing all the afternoon while I was decorating my tree , along with Bing Crosby. And Franck Sinatra , and Dean Martin.. :o)
ReplyDeleteAlas, this will surely be an other blue christmas here (blue, not like the state of mind, but like the color of the sky!)
Have a nice week, dearest Rita!
I never would have expected that palette to yield those colors. I want to experiment -- thank you for the inspiration, again. xx
ReplyDeleteRita -- your yard sounds like a winter wonderland after all that snow moved into your part of the country. Nice day to stay inside and enjoy the views outside -- if you can that is. Like the windy sketch.. Stay warm and cozy --- barbara
ReplyDeleteThese sketches are just lovely. :) I grew up in Pittsfield, Maine and lived in Maine until i was 32. My husband grew up in Dover Foxcroft. Now we live in Portland Oregon, and love it here, but around Christmas, get quite homesick for Maine. Usually we visit family over our summer vacation, and haven't had a Maine Christmas since '98. The clumps of snow, and the beautiful fluttering songbirds are very familiar, especially the bright red male cardinals. Cardinals don't live in Oregon, and i miss them.. though we do have many beautiful birds!
ReplyDeleteThese are lovely pages from your journal. I love that your open up your thoughts and art to all the blog visitors. It does feel like you are my neighbor. So glad you ended up in New England, too.
ReplyDeleteYou even captured the snow blowing in a whimsical way! Adore these journal pages.
ReplyDeleteI loved out winters in New England. Snow is such a rare treat for me these days. Enjoy, and please keep sharing all your wonderful views. Hope the snow will stay fresh through Christmas for you!
