Just as with physical exercise, a gal can get out of shape when
she doesn't work with her sketchbook every day.
Question:
When you feel like there's a stuck door between you
& the form of expression you enjoy,
is it better to stay & keep pushing/practicing,
(even though everything you do turns to a Major Nothing),
or is it better to go away & do something else?
I think it depends,
but I'd love to learn your ideas & experience.
Such a sweet illustration. Hmmm. I think it is better to step away and focus on something else when we hit a wall creatively. I suppose in certain situations one cannot afford to. By changing thoughts, communing with nature, mediating, I believe it allows our souls to breathe and refocus instead of staying in a frustrated state. Hopefully when you return, the break will prove to be beneficial.
ReplyDeletei usually walk away for a while, try to give my energy a rest.
ReplyDeleteI only started drawing three years ago. I used to draw once or twice a week. Now if I don't draw every day I just feel deprived. I do it so I can watch myself get better and better at it. I can only imagine how much better I'll be three years from now, 5 years, 10? It's exciting to think about it. I didn't know I could, and now I can't stop!
ReplyDeleteI'm a kind of "Always try" girl. Nothing to lose. If you don't try, you'll never know .
ReplyDeleteJeśli się czujesz, jak zakleszczona między drzwiami", to może iść do przodu, a nie wycofać się. Ty musisz o tym zdecydować. Pozdrawiam serdecznie.
ReplyDeleteInstead of pushing the door, just think for a while why the door is closed for me and what need to be done to open it and work accordingly.
ReplyDeletea ja odpuszczam, nic na siłę. chciałabym rysowac codziennie, ale czasem po prostu się nie da i już:) wtedy oglądam blogi, książki, szukam inspiracji. so be patient & wait a while! pozdrawiam!
ReplyDeleteFor me it is better to step away, immerse in something else, to free the mind . . . I hope you find your key again soon . . . but if not, take a diversion . . .?
ReplyDeleteI just fade away for a day or so. When I return: new energy, new angles...
ReplyDeleteSometimes it help to walk away and come back with a fresh mind and new strength to push that door open!

Time to get out the tracing pad and trace your favorite artist. That turns ooff the lizard critic brain nicely and gets the hand moving.
ReplyDeleteKeep pushing I say. It's all good.
Oh a walk outsidenfor an ice cream cone is also a good ice breaker...
ReplyDeleteIt is interesting to me that others reach that closed door on a project. I feel the only way for me to open that closed door is to just let it drop away for awhile. It always surprises me that when I come back to it I feel so enthusiastic about it. -- barbara
