Today I heard some one speak of something
having been a "bridge to a new life." My first bridge was "the white bridge",
a wooden footbridge that crossed a little creek in a little woods between us & the elementary school.
I was showing someone a map of Paris yesterday & found myself saying,
"You must cross the footbridges over the Seine!"
I loved walking all over Amsterdam, crossing the many footbridges over the canals.
Perhaps they added to the flowing feeling I had in that city.
In a year I hope to cross the bridges of Paris again,
& maybe go back to Amsterdam
But for now, I think of bridges that I've crossed,
including bridges to joy, health, & fulfillment.
Witam . Holandia, Amsterdam, kładki nad wodą i wiadomo, rowery. To dla tego miasta specyficzne i lubię to. Lubię też Twój uroczy szkic. Pozdrawiam i ściskam serdecznie.
ReplyDeleteFantastic bicycles..stationary, yet I feel the many movements..
ReplyDeleteYou have a lot to be thankful for Rita:)
Your last words say it all:)
Beautiful. I have never been to Paris, but I did spend an afternoon in a city in France near the German border when I was a child. I don't remember any bridges from that day, but I do remember lots of others, both figurative and literal. In our town there is a footbridge that crosses a main thoroughfare leading to a park. It's curvy and the concrete has something added to it that makes it shimmer when the light is right. When I was in my early teens, I imagined getting my first kiss on that bridge! Like Cinderella.
ReplyDeleteAhhh, love your bridges, literal and metaphorical . . .
ReplyDeleteTheir are many bridges to cross in life, not all lead to where we want to be, But reading your words and the way you have sketched those bicycles you are ready take off. Good to see your sketches and talk of visiting France & Holland.
ReplyDeleteLove it AND crossing bridges to a better life!
ReplyDeleteFine point to make about 'bridging' in our lives.
ReplyDeleteI love this sketch--it feels playful and fun, and when paired with your thoughtful post, it's quite a treat. I also like that you've done all this with simplicity and very few words. Really nice.
ReplyDeleteRita -- Introspective thoughts about bridges in your life. Bridges can be a metaphor for many circumstances in one's life -- a good word for group discussions. Also a key word for folks who journal. Your Paris sketch is full of energy. Great you plan on a Paris revisit next year. -- baarbara
ReplyDeleteBefore I read your narrative, I immediately thought of European cities, esp. Amsterdam. Footbridges at times are safe havens to bridge over troubled waters.
ReplyDeleteI like very much this idea to cross bridges , not only from one shore to an other , but also from one moment to an other , from a part of life, an experience...to an other..
ReplyDeleteI love this one! Even before reading your post, I was thinking it reminded me of canal bridges in the Netherlands.
ReplyDeleteI love thinking about this, Rita. Bridges in my life are on my mind now, and I will write to you about them someday.
ReplyDeleteI just read there are 1500 bridges in Amsterdam. Is this possible?
ReplyDeleteWe should have kept count and never walked 2X over the same bridge...
Wonderful post Rita, and as always a charming sketch. Love those bikes.
ReplyDeleteHai Rita,
ReplyDeleteLove your sketches and watercolor style!!
Can i ask what kind of pen/ink you use? Thank you! Greet Kim
