Bicycles

I adore bicycles but I'm a little fearful about riding since I fell & broke a bone a few years ago (not on a bicycle). How I loved the freedom & energy generated by pushing those pedals, ever since childhood!!
Should I ride again? Yes. (But maybe not today...)
The bicycle culture in Amsterdam makes so much sense!
I'm definitely too timid to try this in Paris with, gasp! lots of fast cars & motorcycles!!
In Amsterdam, such a variety of bicycle morphs! Maybe I could handle this one...
Even when they're parked, they're so wonderful!

  1. There is something really charming about a bicycle, no matter where you park it it oozes charm... Umbrellas do the same thing. Love the painting.

  2. Rita, I have a thing for bicycles too. I often photograph them and I've had several posts devoted to bicycles on my blog.
Bardzo lubię rowery. Pozdrowienia z Warszawy :-).
Thank you for your recent comments - I replied under them.

  3. I like your sketch! I love bike riding and I ride everywhere. There are lots of paths here in Toronto. Perhaps, like me, you can take the side streets which are safer, even if it takes a bit longer.

  4. Love the sketch of the bicycle. Being the youngest of 5 children, I never had a bike of my own, so always had to borrow someones, as my brothers was too big & had a cross bar & I couldn't get my leg over it. I brought a bike to France but never rode it, it's too hilly where I live. I had visions of me pedaling to the Boulangerie to get my daily baguette. Oh well never mind. your photos were lovely.
Try my post 'I've been tagged' again I've tweeked it a little & I think I've got it right now, as I've had replies from some of the others.

  6. I'm with Virginia
Parked is lovely. At least in Paris bikers obey the lights!
    Not in NYC :(

  7. I love your little bicycle illustration. I used to ride too, but would be afraid to ride these days for the same reason - too easy to break a bone! But your illustration is really charming.

  8. Oops - I meant to say what a contrast between your sketch and the photograph right after it. Your sketch is very calm and tranquil, while the photo looks very busy and hectic.

  9. I love your bike sketch, and guess what! I rode Vélibs in Paris. It was something I had always wanted to do. There is nothing quite like the wind in your ears as you glide (bump) across Champs Elysées, zip between Petit Palais and Grand Palais, and then breeze across the Seine on Pont Alexandre III. It was easier than I thought and I cannot wait to go back and do it again!

Sorry I have been absent so long... After Paris I was working, working, working...

    Bises,
    Genie

  10. Faire de la bicyclette dans n'importe quelle grande ville n'est pas à la portée de tout le monde. ONe has to be a bycicle expert to bycicle in any big town. Mais...mais il y a aussi des gens qui n'hésitent pas à faire du roller dans les rues de Paris!
